I went on a 5 Day liquid diet

So, my body and I have been fighting. Each other.

I’ve been struggling with weight gain, being committed to losing it, losing it and then gaining it again when I slip up. It’s never-ending.

It was brought to my attention, SEVERAL times, that it may be due to my relationship with food.

Mainly because I eat what I want when I want.

Since going into lockdown I made this conscience decision to DO BETTER, in all aspects of my life. Some of the changes included, sleeping better, working less and doing things that make my soul feel better. So basically, taking care of my mind, body and soul.

I started on a new workout routine, intentionally working out 5 times a week instead of when I feel like it and then eating better. Which is when I decided to do some sort of cleanse, the liquid diet.

I did it before (years/months ago, not sure) when Beauty Boois tweeted about doing it. We did 3 days of just liquids.

liquid diet is a diet that mostly consists of liquids, or soft foods that melt at room temperature (such as ice cream).

I don’t know why I thought I could do 5 days, but yes I embarked on it. Here’s how it went:

I stocked up on fruit and vegetables. I bought mostly, bananas, pineapples and apples as the core of my smoothies and then I added, plain yogurt, milk, honey, chia seeds, berries for taste.

I filled the blender to be able to make at least 3 mason jars every day.

I’d have my first smoothie at about 9 or 10 am, the next at lunch and then the other late afternoon. I would drink coffee in between when I was feeling like a snack or needed energy.

Yoh the first day was hard, I was soooooo hungry. But we made it.

I repeated that the next day, but I started to feel really low in energy, obviously because I was hungry and my body wasn’t used to it. So I cheated and had 3 min noodles in the evening.

The next day went fine, my body was getting used to it.

By the fourth day, I was starting to feel lighter, cleaner… my belly wasn't bloated, I was going to the toilet more. I was detoxing. However, I cheated again and had nuts and raisin as a snack (for energy). LOL. It was hard.

Day 5, Friday morning, I had a green smoothie in the morning and one at 12. I ended my liquid diet an hour after that with Renate’s homemade loaf.

In the evening, my sister brought KFC for dinner so I had that, and the next day I was sick. It’s as if my body was rejecting solids now. LOL.

I felt and feel great after the challenge, I feel really lighter, I may have lost a few calories, especially because I worked out every day too.

With the cheating I actually did 3 clean days. I suggest, if you are to do this, you opt for three days. Don’t get ambitious like I did. LOL.

I could have added soup, ice cream, fruit juice, oatmeal to the diet but I’m a lazy bum. When I do it again I’ll definitely add that.

I’m thinking of doing it every month. Three days with a more detailed planned like:

Breakfast
  • 1 cup of hot cereal (like Cream of Wheat) thinned with whole milk
  • 1/2 cup fruit juice
Morning snack
  • 1/2 cup yogurt
Lunch
  • 2 cups of soup
  • 1/2 cup fruit juice
  • 1 cup pudding
Afternoon snack
  • 1/2 cup fruit juice
Dinner
  • 2 cups soup
  • 1/2 to 1 cup blended oatmeal thinned with milk
  • 1/2 cup lemonade / green tea

I got all the smoothie recipes off Pinterest, my favourite is a banana and peanut butter smoothie.

So what next? I will continue with having a smoothie for breakfast every day and eating healthy solids for lunch and dinner. I will be adding more vegetables into my meals, having less sugar and bread, I will also be drinking more green tea.

My aim is to feel healthier than I have felt the past few months, lose the belly fat and be in the body I feel most comfortable in.

I hope this was a little helpful for you guys who would like to try out the liquid diet.

Let me know how it goes for you, should you try it. :-)

Till next time.
